Satellite is an electronic device that is sent into space and moves around the earth or another planet. It is used for communicating by radio, television, etc. for providing information. Bangabandhu Satellite-I is the first Bangladeshi geostationary communications and Broadcasting Satellite. It was manufactured by Thales Alenia Space and launched in May 2018. The project was implemented by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) working hand-in-hand with US-based Space partnership with International, LLC . The country’s first geostationary communication satellite. Bangabandhu-1, was launched at 02:14 am Bangladesh time on May 11, 2018. With the launch of the nation’s dream satellite, Bangabandhu-1, Bangladesh has become the 57th member in the Global Space Society and 4th in the South Asia- after India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Designed and manufactured by the French satellite manufacturing company Thales Alenia Space Bangabandhu-1 was launched by the American satellite launching Space Centre, Florida, USA. The satellite, a project of tk 2,765.66 crore and weighting 3.7 tonne, will get its permanent home at orbital slot 119.1 degree east which Bangladesh  rented from Russia for tk 221 crore for 15 years. its service area will cover South Asian countries and Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar and some parts of former Soviet Republics. State owned Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Ltd will operate the business of Bangabandhu-1. The satellite will offer Direct-to-Home (D2H) services, making people’s access to worldwide TV faster and easier. The country’s remote parts- haor, hilly parts, coastal areas and deep sea-zones- will get internet service from the satellite. It could provide the nation with dedicated emergency telecommunication services during natural disasters if all other services go offline. Bangabandhu-1, a crucial tool for surveillance and ensuring national security, will also be a huge stride towards digitalization. undoubtedly, this is the most sophisticated project in the country’s history. The Bangabandhu-1 will be a great addition to our information technology heralding our entry into the Satellite Club of the world. It will certainly bring revolutionary changes in our broadcast and telecommunication sector.
