Mainul Islam is a qualified farmer in Naogaon. Mr Islam was very brilliant as a student. He took his higher education from Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh.

মঈনুল ইসলাম নওগাঁর একজন যোগ্যতা সম্পন্ন কৃষক। ছাত্র হিসেবে জনাব ইসলাম অত্যন্ত মেধাবী ছিলেন। তিনি বাংলাদেশ কৃষি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, ময়মনসিংহ থেকে উচ্চতর শিক্ষা গ্রহণ করেন।

After completing his higher education Mainul came back home and started advanced farming. He has two other brothers who are graduates in different areas.

পরে তিনি গ্রামে ফিরে আসেন এবং উন্নত মানের চাষাবাদ শুরু করেন। তার অন্য দুই ভাই ভিন্ন ভিন্ন বিষয়ে স্নাতক ডিগ্রীধারী।

The specialty of the Islam family is that they all are living in their village and all have fame in their own fields. His younger brother, who is a Rajshahi University graduate, is a science teacher in a local school.

ইসলাম পরিবারের বিশেষত্ব হলো, তারা সবাই তাদের গ্রামে বাস করেছেন এবং সবারই নিজ নিজ ক্ষেত্রে সুনাম রয়েছে। রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের স্নাতক ডিগ্রিধারী তার ছোট ভাই স্থানীয় একটি স্কুলের বিজ্ঞান শিক্ষক।

His youngest brother is a social science graduate and he too would like to start a local NGO to work for this area. When asked “What makes you decide to stay here in this village?”,

তার কনিষ্ঠ ভাই সামাজিক বিজ্ঞানের একজন স্নাতক ডিগ্রীধারী এবং তিনিও এই এলাকার কাজের জন্য একটি স্থানীয় এনজিও (বেসরকারি সংস্থা) শুরু করতে চান। যখন জিজ্ঞাসা করা হয়, “কোন জিনসিটি আপনাকে এই গ্রামে থাকার সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে সাহায্য করেছে।

Mr Islam smiled.He said, “Look, it’s true that we could leave this village for a city life. I could be an officer or my brother could be a bureaucrat.

জনাব ইসমাইল হেসে বলেন, “দেখুন, এটা সত্য যে, শহুরে জীবনের জন্য আমরা এই গ্রাম ছাড়তে পারতাম। আমি একজন ব্যাংক কর্মকর্তা হতে পারতাম অথবা আমার ভাইয়ে মতো আমলা হতে পারতাম।

But it didn’t attract us. We are sons of this soil. Yes, we have education but does education prepare a person only to be an officer?

কিন্তু এটা আমাদের আকৃষ্ট করেনি। আমরা এই মাটির সন্তান। হ্যাঁ, আমাদের শিক্ষা আছে, কিন্তু শিক্ষা কি একজন মানুষকে শুধু কর্মকর্তাই বানায়?

Don’t we have any obligation to the soil that has made us what we are?” He also added that every educated individual shouldn’t be a job seeker.

এই মাটির বা দেশের প্রতি কি আমাদের কোনো দায়িত্ব নেই, যে মাটি আমাদের এই অবস্থায় নিয়ে এসেছে? তিনি আরও বলেন যে, প্রত্যেক শিক্ষিত লোকরেই চাকরী বা অনুসন্ধানকারী হওয়া উচিত নয়।

He continued that since his discipline was Agriculture, after his education he took the occupation of a farmer. In response to the question whether they have any frustrations to live in a village, he confirmed that they were very pleased with their life.

তিনি বলে চলেন যে, তার বিষয় কৃষি হওয়ায় তার লেখাপড়া শেষে তিনি কৃষকের কাজ বেছে নিয়েছেন। গ্রামে বাস করায় তাদের কোনো হতাশা রয়েছে কিনা- এই প্রশ্নের জবাবে তিনি নিশ্চিত করেন যে, তারা তাদের জীবন নিয়ে খুব খুশি।

He said, “I work in my own farm, stay with my family members, pass time with my old friends, and sleep at my own home. All these count a lot.”

তিনি বলেন, ” আমি আমার নিজের খামারে কাজ করি, পরিবারের সদস্যের সাথে বাস করি, পুরাতন বন্ধুদের সাথে সময় কাটাই এবং নিজের বাড়িতে ঘুমাই। এসব বিষয় আমার কাছে অনেক কিছু।”

Mr Islam is right. Many people go to cities and forget or loosen their roots knowingly or unknowingly. Mr Islam and his brothers are great – they never forgot their roots.

জনাব ইসলাম সঠিক বলেছেন। অনেক লোক শহরে চলে যায় এবং সচেতনভাবে বা অসেচতভাবে নিজেদের শেকড় ভুলে যায় অথবা আলগা করে দেয। জনাব ইসলাম ও তার ভাইয়ের মহান- তারা তাদের শেকড় ভুলেননি।

They not only stuck to their own roots, they have been torch bearers for others to be respectful of their own roots.

তারা শুধু নিজেদের শেকড়ের সাথেই আটকে নেই, তারা অন্যদের জন্য আলোকবতির্কা হয়েছনে শেকড়ের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধাশীল হওয়ার জন্য।
