Every person has a hobby or an activity that they love to do in their free time. A hobby gives us joy and helps us make good use of our leisure. It keeps our mind fresh and makes life more interesting. My favourite hobby is reading books. I love reading because it gives me knowledge, pleasure, and peace of mind. Whenever I get some free time, I take a book and start reading.

I developed this habit when I was very young. My father is a teacher and he always encouraged me to read books. He used to bring storybooks for me when I was in primary school. At first, I read picture books and short stories. Later, I started reading fairy tales, adventure stories, and books about famous people. Gradually, reading became my favourite hobby. Now, I cannot spend a single day without reading something.

Reading is a wonderful habit. It helps me learn many things that I did not know before. Through books, I can travel to different countries, meet new people, and experience various cultures without leaving my room. I learn about the history of the world, great discoveries, and scientific inventions. Books also help me to improve my language skills. They enrich my vocabulary and help me write and speak better. Reading also improves my concentration and thinking power.

I love to read all kinds of books, but storybooks and novels are my favourite. I especially enjoy reading books written by famous writers like Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, and Humayun Ahmed. Their stories are full of emotions, lessons, and beauty. Sometimes I also read poems and essays. Besides Bengali literature, I like to read English books too. Reading English books helps me learn new words and understand the world better.

Reading gives me peace and relaxation. When I feel sad, lonely, or tired, I open a book and forget all my worries. It feels like I am entering another world full of imagination and adventure. It also teaches me valuable lessons about life, honesty, courage, and kindness. I learn how to become a better person and how to face challenges bravely.

I spend at least one hour every day reading books. I have a small bookshelf in my room where I keep my favourite books neatly arranged. Sometimes, I borrow books from my school library or from my friends. During holidays, I read even more. I also like to discuss the stories I read with my friends and teachers. It makes reading more enjoyable and helps me understand the books better.

Reading as a hobby is not only enjoyable but also very useful. Unlike watching television or playing mobile games, it does not harm our eyes or waste our time. Instead, it increases our knowledge and keeps our mind active. It helps me do well in school because I understand my lessons faster and write better answers. Reading also inspires me to dream big and work hard to achieve my goals.

In today’s busy world, many people do not have time to read books. They spend most of their time on social media or watching videos. But I believe that reading is the best way to spend free time. It keeps us away from bad habits and helps us grow mentally and morally.
