My Recent Visit to a Book Fair

Ashik Ahmed, Staff Correspondent, Dhaka, 14 May: Every year Bangla Academy organizes ‘Ekushey Boi Mela’. The fair is held in the Bangla Academy premises. There are a huge number of books on various subjects in many stalls of different publishers. The main thing about a book fair is not only sale of books but also display of books on different subjects. Many novice writers want to start their career from a book fair.

Yesterday I visited the ‘Ekushey Boi Mela’ and purchased several books of my choice. I got there a chance of comparing books of different writers published by different publishers. I was amused at seeing hundred and hundred stalls. All sorts of books were displayed in the stalls. I found there some contemporary writers visiting the fair. It was a special attraction to me as I could have a glance of my dream characters.

The discussion program and cultural function arranged on the premises attracted me to a large extent. However, the arrangement was nice but huge amount of dust in the book fair made the visitors uncomfortable. Some stalls were found selling snacks and thus polluting the premises. The authority should pay close attention to the problem.

My Visit to a Book Fair

Staff Reporter, Dhaka, 14 May 2026: Last Friday, I visited the annual book fair held at the historic Bangla Academy premises. The fair attracted thousands of book lovers, students, writers, and publishers from different parts of the country. It was a memorable and enjoyable experience for me.

The entrance of the fair was beautifully decorated with colorful banners, festoons, and posters of famous writers. There were many stalls arranged in rows. Different publishing houses displayed various kinds of books including novels, poetry, science fiction, history, religion, and children’s literature. Visitors were eagerly browsing and buying books.

I visited many stalls and found a large collection of books by renowned writers like Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, and Humayun Ahmed. I bought a few storybooks and a dictionary at reasonable prices. The publishers were offering attractive discounts to the visitors.

The environment of the fair was very lively and pleasant. Cultural programs, recitations, and discussions were also arranged on the fair premises. Security measures were satisfactory, and volunteers helped the visitors maintain discipline.

My visit to the book fair increased my interest in reading books. It was not only a place for buying books but also a center of knowledge, culture, and entertainment. I hope to visit such fairs again in the future.
