তোমরা সবাই রাজনীতিবিদ হিসেবে শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানকে চেন, যাঁর জীবনে গর্ব করার মত অনেক অর্জন আছে। তিনি আমাদের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামের নেতা।
He declared independence on 26 March 1971. He is the founder of Bangladesh. He is our Father of the Nation.
তিনি ১৯৭১ সালের ২৬ শে মার্চ স্বাধীনতার ঘোষণা করেন। তিনি বাংলাদেশের স্থপতি। তিনি আমাদের জাতির জনক।
He is the leader of the oppressed people. He was and still is so popular, so dear, and so own to everyone that people passionately call him Bangabandhu meaning the friend of Bengal/ Bangla.
তিনি নিপীড়িত মানুষের নেতা। তিনি প্রত্যেকের নিকট এত বেশি জনপ্রিয় এবং এত বেশি আপন ছিলেন যে, জনগণ আবেগ সহকারে তাকেঁ বঙ্গবন্ধু মানে বাংলার বন্ধু বলে।
But do you know, Bangadnadhu as a writer! Yes, we have got some precious memories of Bangabandhu written by him.
কিন্তু তুমি কি বঙ্গবন্ধুকে লেখক হিসেবে জানো? হ্যাঁ, আমরা বঙ্গবন্ধুর কিছু স্মৃতিকথা পেয়েছি যা তিনি নিজে লিখেছেন।
He wrote that in Bangla which is available as Osomapto Attojiboni. Written in the style of auto-biography, Bangabandhu unfolds some unknown aspects of his personal, political and family life in this book.
তিনি বইটি বাংলায় লিখেছেন, যা অসমাপ্ত আত্মজীবনী নামে পাওয়া যায়। আত্মজীবনী ধারায় লিখিত এ বইটিতে বঙ্গবন্ধু তাঁর ব্যক্তিগত, রাজনৈতিক ও পারিবারিক জীবনের বিছু অজানা দিক তুলে ধরেছেন।
The narration clearly shows why he has been Bangabandhu and why he is the best Bangalee in a thousand years. The following text is an aspect taken from The Unfinished Memories, an English translation of the book.
ঘটনাদির বিবরণে স্পষ্টভাবে প্রকাশ পেয়েছে, তিনি কেন বঙ্গবন্ধু হয়েছেন এবং কেন তিনি হাজার বছরের শ্রেষ্ঠ বাঙালি। নিন্মের পাঠ্যাংশটুকু ইংরেজিতে অনূদিত অসমাপ্ত আত্মজীবনী নামক বইটির একটি উদ্ধৃত অংশ।
People in the village that I visited would not only offer me refreshments, they would also offer me money and would be offended if I refused to take it.
যে গ্রামে আমি যেতাম সেখানকার অধিবাসীরা আমাকে যে শুধু জলখাবার দিত তা নয়, তারা আমাকে টাকা পয়সাও দিত এবং আমি যদি তা নিতে অস্বীকার করতাম তাহলে তারা কষ্ট পেত।
They insisted that I should utilize the money for my campaign. I remember once how a very poor old woman had waited for a few hours by her hut because she had been told that I would be crossing by.
তারা জোরালোভাবে বলত যে, তাদের দেওয়া টাকা পয়সা যেন আমি আমার প্রচারাভিজানে ব্যয় করি। আমার মনে আছে, খুবই গরিব এক বৃদ্ধ মহিলা কীভাবে তার কুড়েঁঘরের পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে কয়েক ঘণ্টা অপেক্ষা করছিল, কারণ সে শুনেছিল যে আমি তার ঘরের পাশ দিয়ে যাব।
When she finally met me, she held my hand and said, “Please come inside my hut because I would like you to sit inside it for a while.” Holding on to her hand, I went in.
অবশেষে সে যখন আমাকে দেখল তখন সে আমার হাত ধরে বলল, দয়া করে আমার ঘরের মধ্যে এসো, কারণ আমি চাই তুমি এর মধ্যে কিছুক্ষনের জন্য বসো।তার হাত ধরে আমি ভেতরে গেলাম।
There were a lot of people with me and yet she spread out a mat for all of us and gave me a bowl of milk, a paan leaf, and some coins.
আমার সাথে অনেক লোক ছিল; তবুও সে আমাদের সবার জন্য একটি মাদুর বিছিয়ে দিল এবং আমাকে এক বাটি দুধ, একটি পান ও কিছু পয়সা দিল।
Handing me these things she said, “My dear son, please drink the milk and have the paan leaf and take the money, little though it is, because that is all I have.”
এগুলো আমার হাতে দিয়ে সে বলল, বাবা, দুধটুকু পান করে পানটি খাও এবং টাকাটা নাও, যদিও এটা সামান্য কারণ আমার কাছে এ টাকাটাই ছিল।
“Tears came to my eyes. I drank the milk but returned the coins, along with some more money, saying. “Your blessings are more than sufficient for me; they cannot be equated with money and I don’t have enough to repay you.
আমার চোখে পানি এসে গেল। আমি দুধটুকু পান করলাম, কিন্তু মুদ্রাগুলো ফিরিয়ে দিলাম, সাথে আরো কিছু টাকা দিয়ে বললাম, তোমার দোয়াই আমার জন্য যথেষ্ট, দোয়া টাকার সমতুল্য হতে পারে না, আর তোমাকে প্রতিদান দেওয়ার মতো সাধ্য আমার নাই।
“ But she refused to take the coins and the money I gave her. Instead, she told me affectionately, “The prayers of the poor will be with you.”
কিন্তু সে সেই পয়সাগুলো এবং আমি যে টাকা দিয়েছিলাম তা নিতে অস্বীকার করল। বরং সে আমাকে স্নেহপূর্ণভাবে বলল, তোমার জন্য গরীবের সবসময় দোয়া থাকবে।
When I left her hut, my eyes were moist with tears. On that day, I promised myself that I would do nothing to betray my people.
আমি যখন তাঁর বাড়ি ত্যাগ করলাম তখন আমার চোখ অশ্রুজল হয়ে উঠল। সেদিনই আমি মনে মনে প্রতিজ্ঞা করেছিলাম যে, আমি কোনোদিন আমার দেশবাসীর সাথে বিশ্বাসঘাতকতার মতো কিছু করব না।
