The Travellers of Middle Age

4.Read the passage on Interpol. Complete the following table with information from the passage.

During the Middle Age, from AD 501 to 1500, explorers around the world set off on long journeys to discover new lands. Many, such as Admiral Zheng He of China and Marco Polo from Italy became famous for their travels. As well as foreign goods and ideas, the returned with stories of exciting adventures, fantastic creatures and faraway places. Ibn Battuta was a daring Moroccan Muslim explorer. He travelled through Northern Africa, the Middle East, Southern Spain, India and China from 1325 to 1354. He wrote an account of what life was like in the Muslim world called “The Travels of Ibn Batitta”. Between 1405 and 1433. Admiral Zheng He had led seven long expeditions for the Chinese Emperor Yonglo. He made his journeys in a fleet of large ships, called Junks. His fleet sailed all around the Indian Ocean and into the Red Sea. In 1271, two merchants from Venice of Italy, Niccolo’s and Maffeo polo, left for China. They travelled the old trade routes called the Silk Road. Niccolo’s 17-year-old son, Marco Polo, went too. Marco Polo wrote an account of his long journey and became a famous explorer. He travelled from 1271 to 1295.
