class 7 english chapter 7 question answer
7.2 Read the note given below and discuss in groups/pairs.
Answer:
Discussion on Principal and auxiliary verbs:
Student 1: Hi Raktim! Whatâs up? Why do you look so upset?
Student 2: Nipa, Iâve got very poor marks in my English class test on classification and usage of verbs.
Student 1: Ah, I see. Listen! Verbs are mainly two types â Principal Verbs and Auxiliary Verbs.
Student 2: I know that. But tell me how to differentiate them and their usages.
Student 1: OK. Principal verb is main verb that expresses an action or state of something, for example the verb âloveâ in âI love youâ and the verb âamâ in I am beautifulâ are principal verbs.
Student 2: Then, what is the principal verb in the sentence âI do not like herâ?
Student 1: You see, there are two verbs, âdo (not)â is an auxiliary or helping verb and âlikeâ is the principal verb.
Student 2: How do you identify them?
Student 1: You see, here âlikeâ is the main meaningful verb, so itâs principal whereas âdo (not)â is just helping the principal verb grammatically, expressing its (principal verbâs), tense, mood and voice. So, itâs the auxiliary or helping verb.
Student 2: I got it. Without a principal verb any auxiliary verbs cannot stand alone in a sentence, right?
Student 1: Yeah, right. So, if there is just one verb in a sentence, it is the principal verb, for example âamâ in I am beautifulâ. But âamâ in I am doing the work is an auxiliary verb.
Student 2: Ah, I see. To express a change in the tense, mood and voice of the principal verb, we have to change the form of the auxiliary verb here. Then the sentence could be âwas the whole work not being done by me?â
Student 1: Yeah, here âWas (not) being, this part is auxiliary. We use several form of âdoâ âbeâ and âhaveâ verbs as auxiliary verbs.
Student 2: Aha! Now itâs so clear to me. Thank you so much. Nipa.
Student 1: You are welcome, dear.

The little girl, eat a banana | The little girl is going to eat a banana | State (because the verb indicates how the market is!) |
The open space in the market, spacious | The market is spacious | State (because the verb indicates how the market is) |

Iâm Rumela. Sometimes I visit the nearby market with my parents. Last Friday, I went to the market to buy some books and food items. There, I saw different people doing different activities. A young man was talking to the shopkeeper gently. And the shopkeeper was helping the young man to choose a shirt. I saw that the two middle-aged women were talking seriously to each other. The shop assistant was very busy and she was showing the customers different ornaments patiently. A little girl, standing beside her mother was eating a banana gladly. A cleaner was sweeping the road hastily/neatly. One of the security guards was checking seriously whether everyone wore the masks or not. And when I went to the girlâs washroom, I saw the cleaner asking everyone gently to use the washroom properly. All of this helps me to learn how to talk with different people and also inspires me to be gentle and patient.
