Once upon a time there was an honest and pious man. His name was Abu Ben Adham. He was once sleeping peacefully in his room. Suddenly he woke up. He became surprised to see an angel………

Abu Ben Adhem was curious enough to know whether his name was in the list. The angel showed him that his name was at t e top of the list. The angel’ told him that it was his reward gifted by God because to love mankind is to love God.

A pious man named Abu Bin Adham was very good and honest. One night Abu said has prayers and after that he found an angel writing in a book of gold. He then asked the angel what he was writing. The angel told him that he was making a list of those who love the lord. Abu asks whether his name was on the list. He’s told that it is not. Abu became very frustrated and asked why his name was not there. The angel said, ‘The list includes those who love the mankind. A man maybe dishonest and tell lies always, no matter you should love them. You should not discriminate between rich and poor, white and black, believes and non-believers. Allah loves those who love his creation. A man may be wicked but he is also created by the same Allah who has created a good man.

Abu realized his fault that he was not well behaved though he was honest and sincere. His mind was full of repentance and took a bow that he would never be ill-behaved. He thought his incident a warning from God.

One night, he suddenly woke up and saw that his room was full of light. He was surprised to see the light.  Then he saw an angel standing in his room and writing something on a tablet. At that time, Abou Ben Adhem asked the angel what he was writing on the tablet. The angel replied that he was writing the names of people who love Allah. Then Abou Ben Adhem curiously asked the angel if his name was on the list. The angel replied in the negative.  Then Abou Ben Adhem asked the angel why his name was not on the list. He does good deeds and loves Allah. The angel said that perhaps he does not love those whom Allah loves. Then Abou Ben Adhem asked the angel whom Allah loves. The angel said that Allah loves his creation, especially the poor and needy. After hearing this, Abou Ben Adhem distributed all his wealth among the poor and needy. After a few months, one night the angel came to the house of Abou Ben Adhem again. The room was filled with light. Then the angel showed him the list of names. The name of Abou Ben Adhem was at the top of the list. Finally, the angel said, “Now you love those whom Allah loves.”  Saying this, the angel disappeared.
