Report on the Bad Effects of Facebook on the Young Generation
Md. Rokon Uddin Rumon, Staff Reporter, thepadma24.com, Dhaka, 27 June 2026: Facebook has become one of the most popular social networking platforms among young people. While it offers many opportunities for communication, learning, and entertainment, its excessive and irresponsible use has created serious problems for the younger generation. The growing addiction to Facebook is now considered a major social concern.
Many students spend several hours scrolling through news feeds, watching videos, chatting, and playing online games instead of concentrating on their studies. As a result, their academic performance often declines. Moreover, excessive use of Facebook leads to poor time management, lack of concentration, and reduced creativity. Many young users also suffer from sleep disorders because they stay awake late at night using social media.
Another alarming issue is the spread of misinformation, cyberbullying, and online harassment. Many teenagers become victims of fake news, online fraud, and identity theft. Some are emotionally affected by negative comments, unrealistic lifestyles, and unhealthy comparisons with others, which may lead to stress, anxiety, and depression. Furthermore, excessive dependence on virtual communication weakens real-life relationships and social skills. Instead of spending quality time with family and friends, many young people remain absorbed in the virtual world.
Health problems are also increasing due to prolonged screen time. Eye strain, headaches, obesity, and lack of physical exercise have become common among regular Facebook users. In some cases, young people are exposed to inappropriate content that negatively influences their moral values and behavior.
To address this problem, parents, teachers, and educational institutions should raise awareness about the responsible use of social media. Students should be encouraged to set time limits, participate in outdoor activities, read books, and engage in creative hobbies. Facebook should be used mainly for educational purposes and positive communication rather than wasting valuable time.
In conclusion, Facebook is a useful platform when used wisely. However, its misuse can seriously affect the education, health, and character of the young generation. Therefore, conscious and balanced use of Facebook is essential for building a healthy, productive, and responsible youth community.

Raiyan Ahmed, Dhaka, 05 April 2026: Facebook is one of the greatest social media in recent times, but it is not free from the bad impacts, which are degrading millions of young people including teenagers morally. According to Larny D Rosen, Professor of Psychology at California State University, the effects of social media are becoming more and more visible. Some of their findings suggest that the more time spent on Facebook is related to a greater tendency towards narcissistic behaviors among teenagers. Also, it has been discovered that young adults who spend excessive amount of time on Facebook show more signs of other psychological disorders, including antisocial behaviors, mania, and aggressive tendencies. Additionally, studies have revealed that excessive daily use of social media can negatively affect the health of children, parents, and teenagers alike as they are more prone to anxiety, depression, and other
psychological disorders as well as more susceptible to future general health problems. Furthermore, school grades suffer much when students spend too much time on Facebook as their valuable study time is lost. Besides, some studies suggest that so called teenage “hyper social networkers” are more likely to engage in risky behaviors, such as smoking, drinking, drug use, fighting and promiscuity. It is a matter of great concern that the young generation of the underdeveloped and developing countries are gradually being addicted to social media especially Facebook
