Chapter: One (1.3) A Dream School
Faria and Raihan are cousins. Faria lives in a village and Raihan lives in a city.
During summer vacation, Raihan visits his grandparent’s house. Faria is showing Raihan around. Their conversation goes like that –
ফরিয়া ও রায়হান চাচাতো ভাই-বোন। ফরিয়া গ্রামে বসবাস করে এবং রায়হান শহরে বসবাস করেও গ্রীষ্মের ছুটির সময়ে রায়হান তার দাদা-দাদির বাড়িতে বেড়াতে আসে। ফারিয়া রায়হানকে চর্তুদিকে দেখাচ্ছে। তাদের কথোপকথনটি নিন্মরূপ-
Faria: Hey Raihan, do you like my village?
ফারিয়া: এই রায়হান, আমার গ্রাম কি তোমার পছন্দ হয়?
Raihan: Very much. I really like the calmness here.
রায়হান: খুব বেশি। আমি এখানকার প্রশান্ত পরিবেশ সত্যিই পছন্দ করি।
Faria: That’s true. Okay, let’s go to our school.
ফরিয়া: সত্যি। ঠিক আছে, এসো আমার স্কুলে যাওয়া যাক।
Raihan: That’s great! I’ll love that.
রায়হান: দারুন! সেখানে আমার খুব ভালো লাগবে।
Faria: Here is my school. (Standing in front of the school)
ফারিয়া: এটাই আমাদের বিদ্যালয়। (স্কুলের সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে)
Raihan: Let’s get inside, will that be all right?
রায়হান: এসো ভিতরে যাই, ঠিক হবে কি?
Faria: It will be just fine.
ফারিয়া: খুব ভালো হবে।
Raihan: Look at that!! So nice, I must say. (Pointing to a large body of water)
রায়হান: ঐদিকে তাকাও! আমাকে বলতে হবে খুব সুন্দর। (বিশাল জলরাশির দিকে দেখিয়ে)
Faria: That’s a “Dighi”, my dear cousin. Don’t you have one in yours?
ফারিয়া: ঐটা একটা “দিঘি”, আমার প্রিয় (চাচাতো) ভাই। তোমাদের স্কুলে নেই?
Raihan: We have a small one, a pond you can say and it is surrounded by a multistoried school building.
রায়হান: আমাদের ছোট একটা আছে, যেটাকে তুমি পুকুর বলতে পারো এবং এটি বহুতলবিশিষ্ট স্কুল ভবন দিয়ে ঘেরা।
Faria: This’s our school garden (pointing to a garden), we all love it.
ফারিয়া: এটি আমাদের স্কুলের বাগান (একটি বাগানের দিকে দেখিয়ে), আমরা সবাই এটিকে ভালোবাসি।
Raihan: We have a tiny one too (smiling).
রায়হান: আমাদেরো খুব ছোট একটা বাগান আছে(মৃদু হেসে)
Faria: So, what do you like most about your school?
ফারিয়া: তাহলে, তোমার স্কুলের কোন জিনিসটি তোমার সবচেয়ে পছন্দের?
Raihan: We have a huge library. Do you have a library here?
রায়হান: আমাদের একিট বিশাল গ্রন্থাগার আছে। তোমার স্কুলের কি গ্রন্থাগার আছে?
Faria: Yes, but it’s a small one. You know what, here, one thing I don’t like at all.
It is muddy roads in the rainy season.
ফারিয়া: হ্যাঁ, কিন্তু এটি একটি ছোট গ্রন্থাগার। তুমি জানো, এখানে একটা জিনিস আমি একেবারেই পছন্দ করি না আর এটা হলো বর্ষাকালের কাদাভরা রাস্তা।
Raihan: Our school is next to a very busy road. The vehicles and their horns make me crazy. Also, it’s very risky to cross the road. Hey, look how many birds!
রায়হান: আমাদের স্কুলটি খুবই ব্যস্ত রাস্তার পাশে অবস্থিত। যানবাহনের শব্দ আমাকে দিশেহারা করে দেয়। রাস্তা পার হওয়াও খুব ঝুঁকিপূর্ন। এই, দেখ কত পাখি!
Faria: Yeah, they nest in the nearby trees.
ফারিয়া: হ্যাঁ, তারা আশপাশের গাছপালায় বাসা বেঁধেছে।
Raihan: We don’t have too many trees around our school, so unfortunate.
রায়হান: আমাদের স্কুলের পাশে খুব বেশি গাছ নেই, খুব দুঃখজনক।
Faria: Let’s go to the playground.
ফারিয়া: এসো খেলার মাঠে যাই।
Raihan: That’s your playground! Where does it end? If we had such a big one in
our school!
রায়হান: এটা তোমাদের খেলার মাঠ! কতো বড়ো। আমাদের স্কুলে যদি এরকম বড় খেলার মাঠ থাকত!
Faria: A playground is a must in a school. I will love to see your school.
ফারিয়া: স্কুলে খেলার মাঠ থাকা জরুরি। তোমার স্কুল দেখেও আমার ভালো লাগবে।
Raihan: Sure, visit us on your next vacation. I’ll show you.
রায়হান: নিশ্চয়ই, তোমার পরবর্তী ছুটিতে আমাদের ওখানে বেড়াতে যেয়ো। তোমাকে আমি দেখাবো।
Faria: Won’t it be great if we find a school that has all the good things from both
of our schools?
ফারিয়া: কি চমতৎকার হতো যদি না আমরা একটি স্কুল পেতাম যেখানে আমাদের দুই স্কুলের সব ভালো জিনিসগুলো থাকতো?
Raihan: ‘A dream school’ that will be……
রায়হান: সেটা হবে ‘একটি স্বপ্নের স্কুল’………….
