21st Century Higher Education

Many educators believe that one of the functions of education today should be to impart 21st-century skills that are indispensable for participation, achievement, and competitiveness in the global economy.

একবিংশ শতাব্দীর উচ্চ শিক্ষা

অনেক শিক্ষাবিদ বিশ্বাস করেন যে, বর্তমান বিশ্বে শিক্ষার অন্যতম প্রধান কাজ হচ্ছে- বিশ্ব অর্থনীতিতে অংশগ্রহণ, অর্জন ও প্রতিযোগীতার জন্য একবিংশ শতাব্দীর যে দক্ষতাগুলো অপরিহার্য সেগুলো প্রদান করা।

Beyond the assessment of reading, mathematics and science, it is now necessary to train other essential skills that are in demand in the 21st century. All people, not just an elite few, need 21st-century skills that will increase their ability, employ ability and readiness for citizenship. Such skills include:

গণিত ও বিজ্ঞান পড়ার মূল্যায়ন ছাড়াও এখন অন্যান্য প্রয়োজনীয় দক্ষতার প্রশিক্ষণ প্রয়োজন যা একবিংশ শতাব্দীর চাহিদা। কেবল কিছু অভিজাত শ্রেণীর জন্য নয়, সব মানুষেরই একবিংশ শতাব্দীর দক্ষতা প্রয়োজন যা তাদের সামর্থ্য, কর্মক্ষমতা এবং নাগরিকতার তৎপরতা বৃদ্ধি করে। এসব দক্ষতা অন্তর্ভুক্ত করে।

Thinking critically and making the best use of the barrage of information that comes their way every day on the Web, in the media, in homes, workplaces and everywhere else.

প্রাত্যহিক ওয়েব, মিডিয়া, বাড়ি, কর্মক্ষেত্র এবং যেকোনো জায়গfয় যেসব তথ্য পাওয়া যায় সেসব সম্পর্কে সমালোচনামূলক চিন্তা ও সর্বোত্তম ব্যবহার করা।

Critical thinking empowers people to assess the credibility, accuracy, and value of information, analyze and evaluate information, make reasoned decisions and take purposeful action.

সমালোচনামূলক চিন্তা মানুষকে বিশ্বাসযোগ্যতা, যথার্থতাকে যাচাই এবং তথ্যমূল্য, তথ্য বিশ্লেষণ ও মূল্যায়ণ, যুক্তিভিত্তিক সিদ্ধান্ত গ্রহণ ও উদ্দেশ্যপূর্ণ কাজ করার ক্ষমতা দেয়।

Solving complex, multidisciplinary problems that all workers in every kind of workplace encounter routinely. The challenges workers face don’t come in a multiple- choice formats and typically don’t have a single right answer.

সকল কর্মজীবী যেকোন ধরনের কর্মক্ষেত্র নিয়মিতভাবে যেসব জটিল, বহুমুখী সমস্যার সম্মুখীন হয় সেগুলো সমাধান করা। কর্মীরা যেসব প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতার সম্মুখীন হয় তা বহুমুখী পছন্দের আকারে আসে না এবং এদের সাধারণত কোনো একক সঠিক উত্তর নেই।

Nor can they be neatly categorized as ‘math problems,’ for example, or passed off to someone at a higher pay grade.

এদের কোনোটিকেই, উদাহরণস্বরূপ, পরিষ্কারভাবে “গাণিতিক সমস্যা” বলে চিহ্নিত করা যায় না, অথবা সম্পন্ন করার জন্য উচ্চ বেতনভুক্ত/ উচ্চ পদের কারও জন্য ফেলে রাখা যায় না।

Businesses expect employees at all levels to identify problems, think through solutions and alternatives, and explore new options if their approaches don’t work. Often, this work involves groups of people with different knowledge and skills who, collectively, add value to their organizations.

ব্যবসা/ ব্যবসা প্রতিষ্ঠান সব পর্যায়েই সমস্যা চিহ্নিত করতে, বিকল্প সমাধানের চিন্তা করতে এবং যদি তাদের পদ্ধতিগুলেঅ না কাজ করে সেক্ষেত্রে নতুন বিকল্প খুঁজতে সক্ষম কর্মী চায়। প্রায়ই এ কাজ ভিন্ন ভিন্ন জ্ঞান ও দক্ষতাসম্পন্ন মানুষদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত করে যারা সমষ্টিগতভাবে তাদের প্রতিষ্ঠানের মূল্যায়ণ বৃদ্ধি করে।

Creativity and entrepreneurial thinking skills are always associated with job creation. Many of the fastest growing jobs and emerging industries rely on workers’ creative capacity- the ability to think unconventionally and produce astonishing work.

সৃজনশীলতা ও উদ্যোগী চিন্তা ভাবনার দক্ষতা কর্ম সৃষ্টির সাথে সর্বদাই জড়িত। অনেক দ্রুত বেড়ে ওঠা এবং উদীয়মান কারখানাগুলো কর্মীদের ব্যতিক্রমী এবং বিস্ময়কর কাজ উৎপাদন করা ইত্যাদি সৃজনশীল ক্ষমতার ওপর নির্ভর করে।

Students should develop the ability to recognize and act on opportunities and the willingness to embrace risks, for example.

উদাহরণস্বরূপ, ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের উচিত উপলব্ধি করার ক্ষমতা এবং সুযোগ ও ভিত্তিতে ঝুঁকি নিয়ে কাজ করার সক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি করা।

Communicating and collaborating with teams of people across cultural, geographic and language boundaries is a necessity in diverse and multinational workplaces and communities.

সাংস্কৃতিক, ভৌগোলিক ও ভাষা সীমার বাইরের মানুষের সাথে যোগাযোগ ও সহযোগিতা, বিচিত্র ও বহুজাতিক কর্মক্ষেত্র ও সম্প্রদায়ের ক্ষেত্রে।

Mutually beneficial relationships are important in achieving goals everywhere, not just in business.

শুধু ব্যবসার ক্ষেত্রেই নয়, যেকোনো ক্ষেত্রে লক্ষ্য অর্জনের জন্য কল্যাণকর পারস্পরিক সম্পর্ক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

Making innovative use of knowledge, information and opportunities which create new services, processes and products. The global marketplace rewards organizations that rapidly and routinely find better ways of doing things.

জ্ঞান, তথ্য ও সুযোগের উদ্ভাবনী ব্যবহার নতুন সেবা, পদ্ধতি ও পণ্য সৃষ্টি করে। বৈশ্বিক কর্মক্ষেত্র, প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোকে পুরস্কৃত করে যারা দ্রুততার সাথে ও নিয়মিতভাবে বেশি ভালো কিছু করার পথ অনুসন্ধান করে।

Companies want workers who can contribute to this environment. These skills will prepare everyone to prepare for the challenges of the 21st century and contribute meaningfully to the country’s development.

কোম্পানিগুলো ও পরিবেশে অংশগ্রহণ করতে সক্ষম কর্মী চায়। এসব দক্ষতা সকলকে একবিংশ শতাব্দীর প্রতিযোগিতা মোকাবিলা করার জন্য দক্ষ করে গড়ে তুলবে এবং এভাবে দেশের যুগোপযোগী চাহিদা পূরণে দেশের উন্নতি সাধনে সার্বিকভাবে অংশগ্রহণ করবে।
