SSCSSC Paragraph

Paragraph: Water Pollution

Water pollution refers to the mixing of impurities in water bodies such as lakes, rivers, oceans, groundwater, etc. The polluted water remains no more fit for drinking for living beings like birds, animals, and humans. It becomes a source of many deadly diseases and can cause harm to human civilization for a long time. Water pollution is the contamination of water. No living being can pass a moment without water. Hence, water is an essential element of nature. But polluted water is very harmful as it causes death threatening diseases like diarrhoea, cholera, jaundice. etc. It can be polluted in many ways. Man pollutes water by throwing waste materials into it. Using chemical fertilizers and insecticides farmers pollute water. rain and floods wash away these chemicals fertilizers and insecticides to rivers, canals, and ponds and thus water is polluted. Poisonous chemicals are used in mills and factories. Throwing their waste products into rivers and canals, they pollute water. In this way, a large quantity of human waste and filth make the water polluted. Because of this pollution, fish cannot   survive. People also become ill by drinking and bathing in the polluted water. By checking the dumping of factory waste, water pollution can be minimized. We can also purify it by boiling or using purification tablets. So to keep good health, we must try to prevent water pollution. To stop water pollution, we need to control activities on a large and follow drastic changes in our habits to help us save water and Mother Earth.

Water is one of the essential elements of our environment among other elements. Another name for water is life. We use water every day for drinking and household purposes. But polluted water is harmful to health. Human activities are the main reason for polluting water. Farmers apply various chemicals and pesticides to the land. Washed by rainwater, these chemicals mix with canal or river water and make the water toxic. Also, industrial waste is often dumped into rivers without proper management. For this reason, river water is polluted continuously. In rural areas, use of unsanitary latrines is observed along river banks. The excrement and urine of these toilets directly mixes with the river water and pollutes the water. One of the causes of water pollution is the dumping of by-products from factories into rivers or ponds. Various radioactive substances like uranium, plutonium etc. mix in the water and pollute the water. Organic pollutants such as pesticides and inorganic pollutants such as detergent powder mix in water to form water pollution. Often household garbage and dead animals are thrown into the water. Also, oil from various motorized watercrafts increases the level of water pollution. And drinking this contaminated water causes various water borne diseases. Drinking contaminated water is one of the causes of cholera, diarrhea etc. Also the water of rivers and canals is becoming polluted and unfit for their habitation. As a result, various aquatic animals are becoming extinct or dying. So everyone must be aware to prevent water pollution. The government should enact laws to regulate the use of chemicals and pesticides. Also public awareness activities can be conducted to prevent water pollution. Also training can be given to everyone on proper waste management. Thus pollution can be reduced by being aware of water pollution.

Water pollution occurs when the water bodies get contaminated mainly due to human activities. Water bodies like rivers, lakes and streams are continuously being contaminated by industrial, and sewage waste, released indiscriminately into it. There are many causes of water pollution but almost all of them are generated primarily due to human activities. Some of the main causes of water pollution as listed below.Industries from across the world emit toxic waste into the nearby water bodies. This waste contains all types of toxic compounds like mercury, lead, all kinds of acids and bases, hydrocarbons, etc. It contains both soluble as well as insoluble impurities. Sewage water from human dwellings also contains all kinds of soluble and insoluble contaminants that pollute the water bodies. Many cities lack having a proper waste disposal management system, causing indiscriminate pollution of the water bodies. Littering is another significant source of water pollution. Plastic and other waste that visiting tourists litter gets carried into the water bodies by wind and rain. Usually, these pollutants are plastic in the form of food packets, plastic bottles, etc. The use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in the agriculture industry is also the main cause of water pollution. Harmful chemicals seep into groundwater or get carried into the nearest water body by rain. The oil spill is also a major cause of oceanic water pollution. Oceans have become an important route of transportation. This often results in accidental oil spills oversea. Oil doesn’t dissolve in water and just float on the surface, blocking oxygen, thereby harming the aquatic life. Algae blooms are organisms that severely degrade the oxygen level of the water bodies. This in turn kills a number of marine lives and degrades the quality of aquatic life. Water pollution affects human health as well as the whole ecological balance of the planet. All in all, it affects each and every living organism that inhabits the planet. Below is a description of several effects of water pollution. Water pollution is a great factor that affects human health. Millions of people from around the globe are exposed to some kind of contaminated water that seriously degrades their health. Studies show that around one billion people across the globe don’t have access to clean drinking water. Around half a million people every year die due to consuming contaminated water or water-related illnesses. Water pollution at different levels has caused severe impacts on other living species as well. While humans can clean water and consume, other living species don’t have that privilege. They rely on natural water sources as it is. If the water is polluted and gets consumed by animals, it harms their health, often resulting in their death. Water pollution is the main cause of concern for marine life. When water gets polluted many aquatic species get affected. Water pollution has been the reason behind the declining numbers of fish, tortoise, whale, and several other aquatic species. Water pollution seriously degrades the overall quality of the environment. Everything in the environment is linked to each other. If the quality of water degrades so also degrades the quality of the environment. It consequently results in climatic variation, acid rain, and other effects. Water pollution is one of the main environmental concerns today. It impacts not only human life but also the ecological balance as a whole. It also impacts the overall health of the environment.
