A dictionary is a book that gives meaning to all the words in a particular language. Using a dictionary is very important for students, teachers or any educated person of any profession. By opening a dictionary, we can instantly learn the spelling, meaning, and application of any word. Large dictionaries show the source words, synonyms, and syntax of each word. The more a person uses a dictionary, the richer his vocabulary is. So, there is no better teacher than a dictionary for language learning. Therefore, every student and educated person should make a habit of using the dictionary.

A dictionary is a collection of words in a specific language. Every language has its own dictionary. There are so many words the meaning of which is not known to the readers. When a student or a reader reads an article or anything he likes, he requires to know the meaning of difficult words. He can open the dictionary and find out the meaning of the word immediately. But most of the students of our country are not habituated to use the dictionary. They don’t understand the importance of using a dictionary. They try to commit to memory anything without understanding for their examinations. It happens specially in learning English. But students should change this attitude. A dictionary is a collection of words. It lists the words of a lord language. It lists a vast number of words. It is like a document to a learner because it gives necessary information about the words. It tells us about the spelling, pronunciation, meaning, and parts of speech, etc. of the words. There are example sentences that make the meaning of words clear. They also show how words are used. It gives the synonyms and antonyms of a word. We make new words by adding prefixes and suffixes to the root word. A verb is always given in the simple present tense. But past form and past participle form of a verb are also shown. So, a dictionary of a language is of great use to the learners. We should develop the habit of using dictionaries from our student life. Doing so will make language an enjoyable game for us. It will help us to become more intimately acquainted with literature. The medium of knowledge is language, and the key to language is the dictionary. So, if we want to wander in the world of knowledge as we wish, then we have no choice but to use the dictionary.
